Garren is a 3x Grammy-nominated WME singer/songwriter/producer/engineer/recording artist whose work has garnered 3 Platinum and 2 Gold RIAA Certifications and 15M+ independent streams. He has appeared on projects with Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Nas, and the late Nipsey Hussle's Victory Lap album (“Dedication). The Los Angeles native's justice-impacted lived experience is chronicled in the biographical documentary short film Normal, which received Official Selection designations at the NYC Independent Film Festival, Los Angeles Movie Awards, St. Louis International Film Festival, and DBFF. He is committed to using quality music education and industry tools, to confront the carceral literacy gap, prompt carceral state residents to deconstruct their life choices, curb recidivism, and provide hands-on tradecraft encounters to resident creators.
In addition to advising the Ben Free Project's curation of music-based curricula, Garren will deliver in-person Subject Matter Expert encounters to incarcerated adults and juveniles, via the Barz Behind Bars (B³) Multimedia Workshop experience. He will also work with public/private partners to advocate particularly for the expanded normalization of the permissibility, availability, and BIPOC resident use of culturally relevant hip-hop genre musical instruments and production tools, throughout the carceral state landscape. Via mentorship and the recruitment of other industry creators, Garren will contribute his invaluable artistic and creative directoral assistance to the many forthcoming resident-conceived projects, events, and initiatives the Ben Free Project will platform that incorporate music.
